Explanation
Background:
Bids were received by the Recreation and Parks Department on December 21, 2010 for the Door Maintenance & Replacements 2010 Project as follows:
Status Base Bid Amount
Wingler Construction MAJ $260,900.00
The Righter Co. MAJ $405,900.00

Project work consists of:
Base Bid - replacement of doors, frames, hardware, mullions, thresholds, trim, window glazing, glass door fronts, electrical connections and handicap door openers at various locations and any such work necessary to complete the project as described in plans and specifications.
Alternate #1 - replacement of north side exterior doors at the Far East Recreation Center
Alternate #2 - replacement of west side exterior doors at Feddersen Recreation Center
Alternate #3 - replacement of two sets of north side exterior doors at the Franklin Park Adventure Center.
Alternate #4 - replacement of east and west side double exterior doors at the Goodale Park Shelter.
Alternate #5 - replacement of west and south side double exterior doors; replacing four sets of doors on east side of Westgate Recreation Center.
Alternate #6 - replacement of two sets of west side exterior doors at the Willis Athletic Complex.

Project improvements will improve the safety and security of the buildings along with providing improved handicap accessibility.

Emergency Justification:
An emergency exists in the usual daily operations of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to enter into said contract in order to begin construction as soon as possible to better secure our facilities, thereby preserving the public health, safety and welfare.
