Explanation
The purpose of this legislation is to authorize the Director of Public Utilities to enter into an agreement with Woolpert Inc. for consulting services for the Enterprise Application Integration.
The purpose of the Enterprise Application Integration project, as highlighted in section 6.8 Integration Strategy of the Technology Master Plan for the City of Columbus, Department of Public Utilities (DPU), is to develop and implement a department wide integration strategy to facilitate the information exchange between DPU computer systems and data repositories.
The goals of this project are to identify and eliminate data silos and overlapping or redundant data. This project will integrate existing computer applications and business functions to form an enterprise architecture of solutions and shared data sources focused on optimizing operational efficiencies and improving customer service. This information management environment will leverage new and existing technologies to support and further promote best business practices as well as IT development and operational standards within DPU.
Phase I of this project will include reviewing critical business processes; reviewing existing computer systems, data and software integrations; performing system integration workshops; developing software and data standards to support integration; defining database design and metadata standards; creating a
comprehensive integration management plan.
Phase 2 of this project will include the implementation of the comprehensive integration management plan in a phased approach over several years to integrate all of the Department data and systems.
