Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes agreement with Norfolk Southern Railway Company to accept grant funds awarded in the 2024 Safety First Grant program. The Columbus Division of Fire Hazardous Materials team has been awarded $15,000.00 in grant funding to facilitate the funding of equipment used in response to railway emergencies throughout the City of Columbus and Ohio Region 4. These funds were provided in the form of a check written to the Columbus Division of Fire. The City of Columbus is not required to match this award with any amount of funds. The official city program contact authorized to act in connection with this $15,000.00 grant is Firefighter Michael Taylor.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Norfolk Southern Railway Company 2024 Safety First Grant does not generate revenue or require a City Match.
Title
To authorize the Director of the Department of Public Safety to accept a grant from Norfolk Southern Railway Company; and to authorize the City Auditor to appropriate $15,000.00 within the unallocated balance of the Division of Fire grant fund ($15,000.00).
Body
WHEREAS, in December 2024, the city received a grant from Norfolk Southern Railway Company; and
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Safety to authorize the Director to accept this grant; and NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Director of the Department of Public Safety is hereby authorized and directed to accept a grant award of $15,000.00 from Norfolk Southern Railway Company.
SECTION 2. That the City Auditor is hereby authorized and directed to appropriate $15,000.00 to the Department of Public Safety per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance.
SECTION 3. That the City Auditor is authorized to make any accounting changes to revise the funding source for all expenditures associated with this legislation.
