MAYOR AND COLUMBUS CITY COUNCIL JOINT RESOLUTION
Title
To declare the month of July as Recreation and Parks Month in the city of Columbus
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus values its parks, greenways, trails, swimming pools, reservoirs, golf courses and nature preserves and desires to increase awareness of the benefits that recreation, sports, cultural arts programs and special events offer its citizens; and
WHEREAS, our youth benefit from activities that are fun and challenge the mind, body and spirit, and are led by professional, caring leaders who serve as positive role models; and
WHEREAS, our youth learn creative expression through the arts, lifetime sports skills, team work and respect for others while engaged in recreation, sports, outdoor education and cultural arts activities; and
WHEREAS, citizens of all ages and abilities benefit from healthy physical activity in our parks, on our trails, on our golf courses, in our swimming pools, in our community recreation centers and multi-generational adult centers; and
WHEREAS, swimming and boating are healthy, enjoyable lifetime activities and learn-to-swim and boating safety programs reduce the risk of water related accidents; and
WHEREAS, parks provide safe places for our citizens to gather, relax and recreate in organized or self-directed activities; and
WHEREAS, our city's parks and the many recreation opportunities available to its citizens are vital in making Columbus a great place to live, work, raise a family and play.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That the Mayor and City Council do hereby declare the month of July as Recreation and Parks Month in the city of Columbus in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association's national celebration of recreation and parks in cities and towns across America.
