To Celebrate the Legacy of Jazz in Columbus and Recognize April as Jazz Appreciation Month in the City of Columbus

WHEREAS, jazz is one of the most popular genres of music, tracing its roots back to African-American communities in the 19th and 20th century and enjoyed today in communities around the world; and
WHEREAS, Columbus is proud to celebrate its artistic community and eagerly anticipates these live musical performances, including incredible jazz performances, that played a crucial role in reconnecting communities after the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, April marks the beginning of the 2025 Columbus International Jazz series, bringing some of the most talented jazz musicians in the world to our city for performances in a variety of venues; and
WHEREAS, Columbus is fortunate to have vibrant local jazz scene, supported by organizations like a Tribe for Jazz and having produced acclaimed artists like Nancy Wilson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Harry “Sweets” Edison; and
WHEREAS, Jazz Appreciation Month calls attention to the rich history of jazz and celebrates jazz and jazz musicians who bring our community together through shared musical experiences; and
WHEREAS the City of Columbus is proud that the music halls, concert venues, and streets of our city are filled with the infectious rhythm of jazz music and encourages all residents to celebrate the dynamic collection of jazz artists who live and perform across the city during Jazz Appreciation Month; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby celebrate legacy of jazz in Columbus and recognizes Aprils as Jazz Appreciation Month in the City of Columbus.
