To congratulate Mark Sweazy, recipient of the 2006 AFL-CIO Community Service Award, recognizing leadership and involvement in the Central Ohio Community.
Body
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, The AFL-CIO Community Service Award is given to a community volunteer whose leadership and involvement has made a significant contribution to the Central Ohio Community; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's recipient, Mark Sweazy, currently serving his third term as President of the United Auto Workers Local 969 has served his community in the past as a member of the Powell Village Council, Council President and Mayor of Powell and continues to serve the community as an active supporter of Lifeline of Ohio, an organ and tissue procurement program; organizer of "Run to the Hills," an event that benefits Franklin County Children's Services; a dedicated supporter of Kids N' Kamp, a program for children with cancer and is actively involved with the Columbus-Franklin County AFL-CIO's "One New Toy" Program, providing food and Christmas gifts to thousands of Central Ohio families in need; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2006 AFL-CIO Community Service Award, Mark Sweazy, whose leadership and involvement has made a significant contribution to the City of Columbus.
