To honor and recognize the members of the Blackburn Recreation Center Boxing Team for their success in the state, regional and national Silver Gloves Tournaments.

WHEREAS, The members of the Blackburn Recreation Center Boxing Team achieved success in the 2006 state, regional and national Silver Gloves competitions, and
 
WHEREAS, Five members of the Blackburn Boxing Team advanced to the National Tournament where they competed against 300 of the top 10 to 15 year old amateur boxers in the country, and
 
WHEREAS, The team was successful with Hakeen Watkins winning the 70 pound class, Abdul Slaughter winning the 85 pound class, Donald Anderson winning the 132 pound class, Willie Blaine winning the 170 pound class and Anthony Graves runner up in the super heavyweight class, and
 
WHEREAS, members of the Blackburn Boxing Team achieved success at the state tournament with Jeremiah Ivery Woodard winning the 70 pound class, Derrell Gibbs winning the 75 pound class, Shela Watkins winning the 132 pound class, William Steward runner up in the 80 pound class, Devantes Williams runner up in the 125 pound class, Alexi Guerrero runner up at the 165 pound class, and Tevin Wilson runner up in the super heavyweight class; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we applaud the Blackburn Recreation Center Boxing Team on their Silver Gloves Tournament success and for displaying good sportsmanship and a positive image for all the youth in Columbus.
