To support the German Village Society's National Park Service Preserve America grant application.

WHEREAS, in 2007, with the support of the City of Columbus, German Village was named a Preserve America Neighborhood by the United States Advisory Council on Historic Preservation; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2007 designation recognized the German Village Society's work to promote education and economic development benefits to the broader community, and provided the German Village Historic District eligibility to apply for federal Preserve America funds; and
 
WHEREAS, with the approval of the Columbus City Council, the German Village Society may apply for funding from the National Park Service for Preserve America funds to create an educational self-guided audio walking tour program; and
 
WHEREAS, if awarded, the grant will be administered by the City of Columbus' Historic Preservation Office, but no city matching dollars are required or requested in the grant; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus City Council supports the efforts of the German Village Society to seek new funding sources to promote their missions of preservation, education, and economic development, now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council supports the German Village Society's National Park Service Preserve America grant application.
