Explanation

This legislation will authorize the City Attorney to accept the Title 2 Project SMART Grant #2004-JJ-DP2-0209 from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Office of Homeland Security and Justice Programs for the continued funding of the Project SMART program within the City Attorney's Diversion Program. Project SMART is a program designed to reduce truancy and absenteeism by instituting mediation programs in Columbus Public elementary and middle schools. It is a cooperative effort between the City Attorney's Office and the Columbus Public Schools.

Emergency action is requested to allow for the uninterrupted continuation of this grant program.

WHEREAS, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Office of Homeland Security and Justice Programs, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, a grant in the amount of Twenty-three Thousand Three Hundred Thirty-three and no/100 Dollars ($23,333.00) for grant 2004-JJ-DP2-0209 Title 2 Project SMART for the year 2005; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the daily operation of the City Attorney's Office in that it is necessary to immediately accept and appropriate the grant funds in order that the services supported may continue without interruption and for the preservation of the pubic health, peace, property, safety and welfare, and, now therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, OHIO
