To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Columbus Housing Partnership and to recognize the 2007 Bringing People Home Celebration.

WHEREAS, Columbus Housing Partnership was founded on the belief that a decent and affordable home is the cornerstone of family life and a healthy community. The mission of the organization is to provide quality, affordable housing and related services to low to moderate income households in Columbus and the surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 1987, Columbus Housing Partnership has developed 4,000 affordable homes which have served 23,000 people. In 2007, Columbus Housing Partnership will serve 11,000 central Ohioans through its affordable housing communities, housing counseling programs and resident services programs; and
WHEREAS, Columbus Housing Partnership focuses on increasing the rate of home ownership in Franklin County, as home ownership encourages residents to care for their property and to maintain beautiful neighborhoods. Through a variety of homebuyer counseling and down payment assistance programs, Columbus Housing Partnership has successfully and consistently enabled people to become and remain homeowners; and
WHEREAS, the programs offered by the Columbus Housing Partnership have improved the quality of life and physical condition of the Columbus community by addressing the underlying social and economic needs facing individuals and families within our neighborhoods by linking services to residents; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby honor Columbus Housing Partnership for its role in helping to build communities and enhance the lives of residents and does recognize the leadership of Mr. Tavis Smiley for his role as key note speaker of the 2007 Bringing People Home Celebration.
