To Honor, Recognize and Celebrate the Life of Moses William Eldridge, 1917-2025

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Moses William Eldridge was born on April 17, 1917, in Wilcox, West Virginia; and

 

WHEREAS, Moses was the second of six children to Moses and Lottie Eldridge. Raised in the hills of West Virginia, he learned early the values of faith, hard work, and resilience that shaped his remarkable life; and

 

WHEREAS, Moses proudly served in the US Army during World War II. After the war, he worked with the NY Central Railroad and later for Columbus City Schools; and

WHEREAS, in 1939 Moses married the love of his life, Ida Belle Bland, with whom he shared a long and loving marriage lasting 74 years until her passing in 2013. Together, they raised their family. He was a devoted father , grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle always offering wisdom, kindness, and encouragement; and

WHEREAS, Moses’s legacy continues through his daughter, Barbara Ann, and son-in-law, Everett E. Bingham, grandchildren Sherri, Michele, and Everett, and great-grandchildren Aylea and Aniyah. He has been a beloved figure to countless family members, friends, and neighbors; and

WHEREAS, Moses was a long-standing member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served faithfully in fellowship and song.  His favorite hymn, “Jesus is the Center of my Joy,” reflected his spirit-joyful, kind and full of grace; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Moses William Eldridge.
