To recognize and congratulate Mr. James A. Johnson on his 80th Birthday on October 14, 2007.

WHEREAS, on Sunday, October 14, 2007, friends and family will gather to celebrate 80 years of life and the tireless efforts of community advocate and civil-rights leader James A. Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Johnson has served in numerous community leadership roles, including President of the Driving Park Area Commission and Chair of the Safety Committee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson founded the first organized block watch in the City of Columbus in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was awarded the Ohio Community Leadership Award from the FBI for his efforts to fight crime in his Driving Park neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson's spirit of activism has inspired multiple generations to invest their time, talent, and resources into the Driving Park neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson is a tenacious and spirited man, who has continually demonstrated his willingness to place his concern for his fellow citizen and the public good ahead of his personal interests; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize James A. Johnson for his life-long efforts toward developing a sense of community through his service to Driving Park community and the City of Columbus.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be presented to James A. Johnson with our esteem.
