Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with Girls on the Run of Central Ohio, a non-profit corporation, to provide operating support for teams in Columbus.
Girls on the Run of Central Ohio's mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident, utilizing a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. The Girls on the Run curriculum teaches critical life skills to girls in 3rd-8th grades, while creating space for them to find comfort, confidence, and joy in physical activity. During each season, teams of 15-40 girls meet with trained, volunteer coaches to learn skills that develop competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution.
Girls on the Run’s commitment to physical activity in children’s lives also means a major investment in their mental, physical, and social health. This grant will support at least 60 girls across 4 teams in Columbus, allowing them to access program fee assistance and proper running shoes.
Since the organization lacks the funding necessary to operate the program on a reimbursement basis, funds will be advanced to Girls on the Run of Central Ohio in order to launch teams.
Fiscal Impact: Funding ($21,000.00) is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.
