Explanation
This ordinance will grant permission to the following group to apply for a temporary liquor permit authorizing the sale of alcoholic beverages at a special event to be held during 2011:
Short North Business Association for the HighBall Halloween, October 28.
This organization wishes to sell alcoholic beverages to eligible patrons on various city streets and city property to be used for the event. There were no reports of intoxication at last year's event.
The City of Columbus, acting by and through its Director of Recreation and Parks, is required to grant approval to the organizer of this event so they may obtain the required permit from the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Liquor Control.
Title
To authorize and direct the Director of Recreation and Parks to grant consent to an organization to apply for permission to sell alcoholic beverages at the following 2011 event: HighBall Halloween; and to declare an emergency.
Body
WHEREAS, the following special event will take place during 2011: HighBall Halloween; and
WHEREAS, following precedent, the organizers of this events wish to sell alcoholic beverages at said event; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Recreation and Parks in that it is immediately necessary to grant consent for these organizations to apply for permission to sell alcoholic beverages to allow time for their applications to be processed; NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Director of Recreation and Parks be and is hereby authorized and directed to grant consent on behalf of the City of Columbus to the following organization to apply for appropriate liquor permits to enable the non-profit group to sell alcoholic beverages during the hours specified in said permit and at a specified location during their 2011 special event:
