Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director enter into a contract with Nickolas Savko & Sons for an amount up to $7,293,646.53 for the Lane Avenue Roadway Improvement project for the Transportation Division and to pay construction inspection costs up to $616,125.00. This improvement details the widening to five lanes and the construction of curb, gutters and sidewalk on Lane Avenue from the Lane Avenue bridge east to Tuller Avenue (see attached map). The project also includes a new storm sewer system, waterline replacement, mast arm signal poles, lighting and tree plantings. The Water and Sewerage and Drainage Divisions will reimburse the Transportation Division for their respective components of the project (construction of new water lines and new storm and sanitary lines, respectively). The Notice to Proceed is estimated to be issued on July 7, 2003. Project completion is estimated at 540 days. The project was advertised in the Columbus City Bulletin and Dodge Reports and by the Builders Exchange by the Transportation Division. Twenty-five contractors were solicited (23 majority, 2 minority) and five bids were received (5 majority, 0 minority) and tabulated on May 15, 2003 as follows:
