To Recognize and Declare March 2024 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

WHEREAS, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM) is a nationwide event to raise awareness about inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all aspects of community life, and the barriers that people with disabilities still face; and,
WHEREAS, DDAM is a pivotal time for raising awareness about the challenges and achievements of individuals with developmental disabilities and is dedicated to promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion within the broader community; and,
WHEREAS, this year’s theme for DDAM is “A World of Opportunities 2024,” and Columbus City Council encourages our residents to support opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in our community including full access to education, housing, employment, and recreational activities; and,
WHEREAS, DDAM is a month marked by advocacy and outreach, aiming to bridge gaps in knowledge and foster a more inclusive society where individuals with developmental disabilities can participate fully and equally; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes the importance of striving to be the best place for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, work, and thrive as contributing members of the community while recognizing that our City is stronger when everyone participates; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council hereby recognizes March 2024 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and encourages all residents learn more about Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and how they can best support and advocate for these individuals and their families.
