Explanation

Background
I Know I can is committed to empowering students to pursue their dreams through education and opportunity. Their programs and resources support students every step of the way, from preparing for college to navigating their career paths. This ordinance authorizes the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to enter into grant agreement with the not-for-profit agency I Know I Can to establish a Founders Scholarship. The scholarship was created to inspire Central Ohio students to pursue college aspirations, celebrate academic excellence and engage in their communities. The scholarship also addresses the growing gap between college costs and families’ financial capacity. This ordinance authorizes an expenditure from the general fund.
Fiscal Impact: This ordinance authorizes the expenditure of $20,000.00 from the General Fund.

Title

To authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to enter into grant agreement with I Know I Can not-for-profit agency in support of a Founders Scholarship; to authorize the expenditure from the General Fund for programming. ($20,000.00)

Body

WHEREAS, the grant funding of $20,000.00 by passage of this ordinance will be used to support the not-for-profit agency to establish a Founders Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of this scholarship will help address the growing gap between college costs and a families financial capacity, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Neighborhoods understands the importance of Central Ohio students pursuing college aspirations, celebrating academic excellence and engaging in their communities; and
WHEREAS, such expenditure of funds has been accounted for within the 2025 Budget; and
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Neighborhoods to authorize the Director to enter into a grant agreement with I Know I Can; now, therefore,
