To support the Columbus Marathon, and to honor and thank all individuals who work so hard to make the event an annual success, including major marathon sponsors Nationwide Insurance and Discount Drug Mart; and Training Series sponsor FRONTRUNNER.

WHEREAS, October 16, 2005 will mark the 26th running of the Columbus Marathon; and
WHEREAS, over 8,000 people participate in the annual Columbus Marathon, including those in the relay, wheelchair and walking divisions; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Marathon is an international event, attracting participants from around the World; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus Marathon has provided a venue for dozens of charities to raise more than $7 million for their specific causes; and
WHEREAS, of the 2004 field, more than 18% qualified for the Boston Marathon, and over 40% were first time marathoners; and
WHEREAS, there are 1,700 volunteers who make the marathon happen; and
WHEREAS, the FRONTRUNNER Training Series is a 26-week training program that fully prepares participants for the event: and
WHEREAS, Columbus Marathon also features a Children's Run on Saturday, Oct. 15 to help children understand the importance of exercise and an active life style; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does support the Columbus Marathon, and thanks all volunteers and sponsors who contribute so much to make the event an annual success, including Training Series sponsor FRONTRUNNER.
