Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to enter into a contract for power line clearance services required by the Division of Power and Water for the installation and maintenance of the division's distribution and street lighting circuits. A request for bids was advertised in the City Bulletin on December 2, 2006 and December 9, 2006. One bid was received and opened by the Director of Public Utilities on December 20, 2006. The bid has been reviewed and meets specifications, therefore, an award is recommended to Asplundh Tree Expert Co. as the only bid received. The contract will be for a two-year period. This legislation authorizes the expenditure of $215,000.00 for the estimated cost for the first year of the contract. Legislation will be submitted in 2008 to provide funding for the second year of the contract. The Contract Compliance Number for Asplundh Tree Expert Co. is 231277550 and is valid until February 1, 2009.
FISCAL IMPACT: $215,000 was budgeted in the 2007 Electricity Operating Fund 550 for this expenditure. Approximately $238,566 was spent in 2005 and $218,361 was spent in 2006 for this service.

WHEREAS, power line clearance services are required by the Division of Power and Water for maintenance of distribution and street lighting circuits; and
WHEREAS, bids were solicited and formally opened by the Director of Public Utilities on December 20, 2006; and
WHEREAS an award to Asplundh Tree Expert Co. is recommended based upon the only bid received for said services; now, therefore,
