To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Aaron Shumate, 1985-2025

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Aaron Michael Holley Shumate, known fondly as “Big A,” was born on December 23, 1985, and passed away on March 20, 2025, leaving a profound impact on his family, friends, and community through his dedication, spirit, and generosity; and

WHEREAS, Aaron’s journey through life was marked by his pride in his education and achievements, from his time at Bishop Hartley High School to his passionate support of the Ohio State Buckeyes, which he shared with his loved ones, including his father, son, and brother; and

WHEREAS, Aaron was the visionary founder of Building Young Minds (BYM), an organization established in 2006 that supported the youth of Central Ohio by fostering their educational, physical, and emotional growth, and empowering them to build resilience and reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Aaron’s bold sense of style, passion for music, and love of fashion were hallmarks of his personality, and he used these traits to connect with others, inspiring those around him to embrace their uniqueness and live with confidence; and

WHEREAS, Aaron’s love for his family was evident in his deep connections with his parents, brother, son, and extended family, as well as in his unwavering commitment to mentoring and guiding his son, Aaron II, through both sports and life; and

WHEREAS, Aaron’s strong faith and guiding principle of believing in God, himself, and the power of hard work provided a foundation for his actions and relationships, and his legacy continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Aaron Shumate, 1985-2025.
