Explanation

BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into contract for the Facilities Management Division with Hopewell Constructors, Inc., in the amount of $714,000.00 for the renovation of kitchens at Fire Stations 5, 6, 7, 13, 26, and 27. The current kitchens in these fire stations do not meet the operational needs of the Fire Division. The work will consist of total renovations of the kitchens, including new cabinets, new appliances, and new range hoods. Some kitchens will be expanded. The contractor has three hundred twenty days upon notification of the award of the contract to complete the project.

Formal proposals were solicited on October 4, 2004. Three firms submitted proposals on October 26, 2004 as follows: (0 MBE, 1 FBE*).

*Hopewell Constructors, Inc. $714,000.00
Gutknecht Construction Co., Inc. $779,000.00
Charter Hill Construction, Inc. $921,117.00

It is the recommendation of the Facilities Management Division to award this contract to the most responsive and responsible bidder, Hopewell Constructors, Inc.

Fiscal Impact: The Fire Division budgeted $850,000.00 in the Capital Improvement Budget for this project. Hopewell Constructors, Inc. Contract Compliance Number 31-1472318, expiration 11/29/2004.
