Title

 

To honor Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) for their hard-work and dedication to environmental preservation in 2025.

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, FLOW was formed in 1997 with a mission to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe for all to enjoy; and 

 

WHEREAS, FLOW achieves its mission through a combination of public education and outreach, volunteer activities, and coordination with local elected officials and decision-makers; and 

 

WHEREAS, FLOW’s work in our community throughout 2025 is commendable for its positive impact on our local environment and water sources, and for its protection of our community’s natural resources; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2025, FLOW hosted numerous volunteer events which enabled members of our community to learn more about and engage in the preservation of our local environment and the Olentangy Watershed; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2025, FLOW volunteers planted over 1,000 trees with the goal of increasing the tree canopy across the watershed and improving air and water quality, climate resilience, and ecosystem health; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2025, FLOW hosted numerous native tree giveaways where they distributed over 700 trees to Olentangy Watershed residents; and 

 

WHEREAS, in 2025, FLOW volunteers picked up 6,284 pounds of trash and recycled over 400 tires, successfully reducing pollution in our waterways and minimizing the number of tires dumped in the Olentangy Watershed; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes and celebrates individuals and groups in our community who advocate for the protection of our natural environment, actively preserve natural resources, and contribute to Columbus becoming a more sustainable and resilient city; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor and commend Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed for their hard-work and dedication to environmental preservation in 2025.
