Explanation
This legislation authorizes the Director of the Office of Education to enter into contract with various community organizations. These contracts will provide funding for After School programming services from February 1, 2006 through June 30, 2006 for Gladden Community House, Capacity and YMCA programs and long term February 1, 2006- December 31, 2006 with CIty Year Inc.
These programs are designed to give children a strong sense of self worth and improve academic ability and community responsibility.

FISCAL IMPACT
Dollars for these programs have been appropriated in the General fund in the amount of $95,228.00 for 2006.
The Mayor's Charitable Trust Fund has funds available in the amount of $34,546.00 but requires funds to be appropriated.

WHEREAS, the Director of the Office of Education desires to enter into contract with various community organizations;

WHEREAS, various community organizations provide services and programming to the community through after school programs; and

WHEREAS, it is important to provide youth program opportunities with high standards and include components such as academic assistance, enrichment activities, prevention units, recreation and socialization, strong family involvement, and nutritious food service; and
