Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded grant funds from the Union County Health Department for the Infant Safe Sleep Mini-Grant. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $1,500.00 for the period November 1, 2012 through November 30, 2013. These funds will be used to conduct infant safe sleep train-the-trainer sessions to childcare providers, to provide supportive educational infant sleep materials, and to conduct follow-up site visits and observational audits of infant sleep environments at childcare centers.
This ordinance is submitted as an emergency to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Infant Safe Sleep Mini-Grant is funded through a grant award received from the Union County Health Department. No City match is required.

WHEREAS, $1,500.00 in grant funds have been made available to Columbus Public Health from the Union County Health Department; and,

WHEREAS, this mini-grant provides funds to promote infant safe sleep practices in childcare centers; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to authorize the acceptance and appropriation of these funds; and,

WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,
