To Honor and Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

WHEREAS, Christ Memorial Baptist was founded in 1946 and continues to be a place where people can worship and work together in love and fellowship; and
WHEREAS, Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church was called and established the Gospel of Christ and the beliefs of the Christian faith; to maintain the worship of God; and to inspire in all persons a love of Christ, a passion for righteousness, and a consciousness of duties to God and mankind; and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Luther H. Johnson was called to be the first pastor. Due to rapid growth of the membership a new edifice was erected and dedicatory services were held on December 16, 1965. After almost 24 years of shepherding the flock, Rev. Johnson was called home on December 24, 1969; and
WHEREAS, Christ Memorial Baptist Church has been led by the following astute, dedicated and spiritually endowed pastors: Rev. N. Spencer Glover - September, 1970 thru February, 1978, Rev. Irece T. Bradley - November, 1979 thru May, 1986, Rev. A. Eugene Wiggins - October, 1986 thru July, 1990; and
WHEREAS, on June 1992, the Reverend Shedrick L. Fowler assumed the pastorate of Christ Memorial. Pastor Fowler has placed great emphasis on the prayer life of the church family and on “Ministries” of the church; and
WHEREAS, during these 22 years, Pastor Fowler has proven to be an effective pastor administrator. From the onset of his pastoral journey, Pastor Fowler has provided a great vision for the church, and God has utilized him in a mighty way. He has placed great emphasis on the prayer life of the church and expanded the worship experiences - both spiritually and numerically; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council hereby Honors and Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Christ Memorial Baptist Church.
