Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Ohio Department of Public Safety has awarded a grant to the Columbus Health Department to fund the Walking Safely With Law Enforcement grant. This grant will focus on reducing pedestrian injuries in the Linden and downtown neighborhoods by increasing awareness of safety issues and increasing enforcement of pedestrian safety laws. This grant has been awarded in the amount of $75,000 for the period of October 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004.
Emergency action is requested to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Walking Safely With Law Enforcement grant is funded by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. This project will not generate revenue or require a City match.

To authorize and direct the Board of Health to accept a grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety in the amount of $75,000; to authorize the appropriation of $75,000 from the unappropriated balance of the Health Department Grants Fund, and to declare an emergency. ($75,000)

WHEREAS, grant funds have been made available through the Ohio Department of Public Safety for the Walking Safely With Law Enforcement grant; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary to accept these funds from the Ohio Department of Public Safety for the continuation of the Walk Safely With Law Enforcement grant; and,
WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Columbus Health Department in that it is immediately necessary to accept this grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety and to appropriate these funds to the Health Department for t...
