In attendance: Council President Pro Tempore Rob Dorans,Councilmember Green, Councilmember Ross, Councilmember Day-Achauer, Kevin McCain, Andie McDonald, Edward Johnson, Director Dr. Mysheika Roberts, Director Scott Messer, David Meyers, Lilly Bohler-Brewer.
- Council President Pro Tem Dorans gave opening remarks regarding Pond Safety Measures.
- City Staff Testimony regarding 2024 Legislation regarding dangerous retention ponds from Kevin McCain, of Council’s Legislative Research Office.
-The Department of BZS’s Director Scott Messer presents an overview of current rules and regulations regarding retention ponds.
- Dr. Mysheika Roberts and Edward Johnson present on child fatality data from their Child Injury Prevention team, and research from the department on retention pond safety measures in other communities.
-Kevin McCain presents a new draft of retention pond regulations including noticing requirements, and ban on mowing grass or vegetation 15 feet towards the water, and potential future code changes for enhanced barrier requirements.
