To Recognize and Celebrate the 112th Anniversary of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
Body
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization of college-education women committed to the constructive development of its members and public service with a primary focus on the Black community; and
WHEREAS, twenty-two visionary Howard University collegiate women founded Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated on January 13, 1913, aspiring to support academic achievement and aid the underprivileged by organizing under the principles of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action, undertaking their first public act on March 3, 1913, when they marched in the famous Women's Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a pillar of the African-American community within Columbus and throughout Central Ohio, providing connection and service to the Black community; and
WHEREAS, the major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development; Educational Development; International Awareness and Involvement; Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement, providing personal, professional, and cultural enrichment to the African-American community; and
WHEREAS, in keeping in pace with the organization’s goals, the Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter has provided and collaborated with numerous educational and enriching programs for residents of Columbus at large, such as the YWCA Family Center Day of Service, EmpowerHer Conference for Women and Girls, World AIDS Day, Delta Days at the State Capitol, UpliftHer, as well as awarding thousands of scholarship dollars to high school seniors who have graduated from Columbus City Schools and schools throughout Central Ohio; and
