Explanation

BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court to purchase installation of wireless access points and a year of service. The Franklin County Municipal Clerk of Court has installed and the Court wants to install wireless access points throughout the courthouse. The Court's purpose of the wireless access points is to allow court reporters the ability to use their new steno machines to full capacity. There is a wireless component between the steno machines and laptop computers for real time reporting. This would also allow for the Judges to be able to upgrade courtroom technology at a later date.

The Court's equipment must be compatible with the Clerk's so that the Office of Information Services (OIS) can maintain one network system. The Clerk's office has already purchased and installed Aruba access points. OIS did research and found that this is the best system for the courthouse's need.

EMERGENCY: Emergency legislation is requested to authorize the contract and the expenditure to allow for immediate installation.

FISCAL IMPACT: The amount of $26,036.50 is budgeted and available for this purpose within the Franklin County Municipal Court's 2010 computer fund budget. This contract term for the year of service is from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011
