To recognize and congratulate Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church on their 107th Anniversary.
Body
WHEREAS, The Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church was founded in 1896 when a small group of believers met from house to house; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Jacob Ashburn Jr. began serving as Pastor in March of 1917 and with his leadership, the church grew from 100 to 300 members; and
WHEREAS, Following the death of Jacob Ashburn Jr., his son Jacob Julian Ashburn was called to pastor; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, after the sudden death of Jacob Julian Asburn, Rev. Andy C. Lewter was called to pastor; and
WHEREAS, Over the years the church has housed a Youth Center, a television station, fed the hungry, and saved souls; and
WHEREAS, Today, Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church resides on Columbus' far west side, in a building over looking Interstate I-70, and consists of over 22 ministries and is committed to a vision of bringing souls to Christ; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize and congratulate The Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church on their 107th Anniversary.
