Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Office of Education to enter into contracts with various community organizations. These contracts will provide funding for After School program services from February 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007. The programs are a service for Columbus Public School students of low and moderate income working parents. These programs are designed to give children a strong sense of self worth, academic ability and community responsibility.
FISCAL IMPACT: In 2007, $413,528.00 has been allocated to fund after school programming through the general fund, Mayor's Charitable Trust and grant fund.
Title
To authorize the Director of the Office of Education to appropriate, expend and enter into contract with various community organizations for the provision of After School programming services for the period February 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007; to authorize the expenditure from the general fund, Mayor's Charitable Trust and grant fund and to declare an emergency. ($413,528.00)
Body
WHEREAS, the Director of the Office of Education desires to enter into contracts with various community organizations; and
WHEREAS, various community organizations provide services and programming to the community through After School programs; and
WHERAS, it is important to provide youth program opportunites with high standards and including components such as academic assistance, enrichment activities, prevention units, recreation and socialization, strong family involvement and nutritious food service;
WHERAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the CIty of Columbus in that it is immediately necessary to appropriate and expend said funds for the preservation of public health, peace and property and safety; NOW, THEREFORE,
