Background:
This ordinance will enable the Director of Recreation and Parks to accept a grant from the State of Ohio: The Ohio Public Works Commission to purchase future parkland known as Alum Creek Corridor Preservation - Mock Park to Innis Park.
This grant award will allow the fee simple purchase of approximately 36 acres of open space. This project preserves floodplain and protects water quality, preserves wetlands and streamside forest areas, protects habitats for plant and animal species, andsupports comprehensive open space and trail planning.
Emergency action is requested so the grant can be accepted in a timely manner and to have funding available for necessary expenditures.
Fiscal Impact:
The fiscal impact of this ordinance will be to reduce the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund's unappropriated balance by $485,835.

WHEREAS, the State of Ohio: The Oho Public Works Commission has awarded the City of Columbus, Recreation and Parks Department, a grant in the amount of $485,835 to purchase future parkland known as Alum Creek Corridor Preservation - Mock Park to Innis Park; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to appropriate said funds to the Recreation and Parks Department for expenditures in conjunction with the purchase of said land; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to accept said grant funds and appropriate said funds to have funds available for necessary expenditures at the earliest possible date; now, therefore
