The City of Columbus in partnership with Lifeline of Ohio hereby proclaim the month of April as Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, There are approximately 650 Central Ohioans among the 84,000 Americans currently awaiting an organ transplant; and
 
WHEREAS, A single donor can potentially save the lives of seven people through organ donation, and enhance the lives of dozens more through tissue donation; and
 
WHEREAS, Lifeline of Ohio is the organ procurement organization designated to promote and coordinate the donation of organs and tissue for transplantation in Central and Southeastern Ohio; and
 
WHEREAS, Residents can declare their wish to become a donor by indicating their intentions in the Ohio Donor Registry when renewing their driver's license or State ID at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, or by completing a Donor Registry Enrollment Form available on line through www.lifelineofohio.org <http://www.lifelineofohio.org>; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we support the efforts of Lifeline of Ohio by encouraging every citizen to become educated about the dramatic difference one individual can make and consider sharing the "Gift of Life" through organ and tissue donation by placing their name in the Ohio Donor Registry.
