To Recognize and Declare May as Mental Health Awareness Month

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, millions of people in the United States are affected by mental illness, with 1 in 5 adults experiencing mental illness each year; and

 

WHEREAS, since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM) has been a cornerstone of addressing the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions; and

 

WHEREAS, MHAM aims to reduce stigma, extend support, foster public education, and advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness; and

 

WHEREAS, MHAM encourages individuals to foster open dialogue about mental health, which cultivates empathy and understanding; and

 

WHEREAS, Mental Health Awareness Month urges communities to share resources to support individuals and families on their journey towards mental wellness; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this Council does hereby declare May 2024 as Mental Health Awareness Month, and thanks those supporters doing work to advance our vision of a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives, supported by a community that cares.
