Rezoning Application Z08-055

APPLICANT: City of Columbus, Development Department, Land Redevelopment Office; c/o John Turner, Agent; 109 North Front Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

PROPOSED USE: Public Parking lot.

NEAR EAST AREA COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Approval.

DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Approval (7-0) on January 8, 2009.

CITY DEPARTMENTS' RECOMMENDATION: Approval. The Applicant requests the CPD, Commercial Planned Development District to permit the development of a public parking lot. The CPD text provides for adequate screening of the parking from adjacent dwellings. The proposed CPD District is consistent with the land use patterns of the area and furthers the goals of the Near East Plan (2005).

WHEREAS, application #Z08-055 is on file with the Building Services Division of the Department of Development requesting rezoning of 0.16± acres from R-2F, Residential District to CPD, Commercial Planned Development District; and

WHEREAS, the Development Commission recommends approval of said zoning change; and

WHEREAS, the Near East Area Commission recommends approval of said zoning change; and

WHEREAS, the Columbus Public Health Healthy Places program recognizes this development is a parking lot an urban, walkable neighborhood and the applicant has agreed to provide texturized sidewalks or signage at the entrance/exit of the parking lot to alert drivers to pedestrians on the sidewalk; and
