To recognize the 85th anniversary of the Columbus Urban League and to declare May 2004 as Diversity Month in Columbus, Ohio.
 
Whereas, The Columbus Urban League has been focused since 1918 on identifying and developing programs that enhance the quality of Life for African Americans and other citizens, and
 
Whereas, The Columbus Urban League strives to provide leadership by "Building a just community through education, economic empowerment, public policy and housing", and
 
Whereas, The Columbus Urban League serves over 12,000 children and families per year, and
 
Whereas, The Columbus Urban League is honoring their 85th anniversary by holding a series of Diversity Month events representing what it means to live in a diverse community, and
 
Whereas, The Columbus Urban League's Diversity Month programs will kick off with the Diversity Walk on May 8, 2004, continue with the Urban Legends Breakfast and Equal Opportunity Day Lunch May 17, 2004 and conclude with the Achievement Matters Breakfast May 29, 2004, therefore   
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council recognizes and applauds the Columbus Urban League for their 85 years of service to the Columbus community and declares May 2004 to be Diversity Week in Columbus, Ohio.
