Explanation

BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Finance and Management Director to enter into a contract on behalf of the Office of Construction Management with PK Builders, LLC. for the renovation of the roof at Police Substation No. 7, 1475 Granville Street. This renovation is necessary as the current roof has exceeded its life expectancy. Replacing the roof now will avoid potentially expensive repairs to the structure of the building in the future.

Formal bids were solicited and six companies submitted a bid on August 17, 2010 as follows (0 FBE, 1 ^MBE):

PK Builders, LLC. $47,800.00
Wingler Construction $49,400.00
^Smith Roofing $59,000.00
General Maintenance & Engineering Co. $64,393.00
M. Smith Roofing $74,987.00
Harold J. Becker Company Inc. $90,925.00

The Office of Construction Management recommends the bid award be made to the most responsive and responsible bidder, PK Builders, LLC.

Emergency action is requested so that the roof renovation can occur immediately, thereby preventing structural damage as well as ensuring work is completed during good weather.

PK Builders, Inc. Contract Compliance No. 31-1630301, expiration date June 19, 2011.

Fiscal Impact: This ordinance authorizes the expenditure of $47,800.00 from the Safety Voted Bond Fund.
