2004 VAWA DV Adovcates Grant
Explanation
This ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, for the Office of the City Attorney, Domestic Violence Unit. These funds shall be used to provide for continued funding for two domestic violence courtroom advocates. The Domestic Violence Unit assists witnesses and victims of domestic violence through the legal process and provides counseling, referrals, and linkage with agencies and community resources. This ordinance will further authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the grant award.

Matching funds required from the City Attorney's general fund budget are $18,386.00.

To authorize the acceptance and appropriation of a grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, in the total amount of $55,165.00 for the continued funding of the Domestic Violence Advocates, to authorize the transfer and appropriation of matching funds required by the acceptance of this grant in the amount of $18,386.00 and to declare an emergency.

WHEREAS, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, Justice Programs Unit, has awarded the City of Columbus, City Attorney's Office, Domestic Violence Unit a grant in the amount of $55,165.00 for Grant No. 2003-WF-VA2-8757 Domestic Violence Advocates for the year 2004; and
WHEREAS, the acceptance of this grant requires that the City Attorney supply matching funds in the amount of $18,386.00; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the daily operation of the City Attorney's Office in that it is necessary to immediately accept and appropriate the grant funds and transfer and appropriate the matching funds in order that the services supported may continue uninterrupted; now, therefore,
