Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to enter into an agreement with the Greater Columbus Arts Council to carry out a preliminary feasibility evaluation of a new arts facility development in Columbus, Ohio. The study results will include the feasibility of affordable artist live/work projects in Columbus. This legislation also authorizes the appropriation of $7,500 and the expenditure of $7,500 from the Jobs Growth Fund for this purpose.
Emergency legislation is requested to allow the preliminary arts evaluation to be implemented and completed in a timely manner.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this contract will consist of $7,500 from the Jobs Growth Fund.

WHEREAS, the Greater Columbus Arts Council is in the process of determining the feasibility of new multipurpose art facility developments in Columbus; and
WHEREAS, the art facilities include affordable artist live/work projects; and
WHEREAS, this effort to develop multipurpose art facilities in Columbus is in keeping with the City's efforts to attract and retain talented people working in the arts community; and
WHEREAS, this study will also include recommendations for next steps regarding the artist live/work project; and
WHEREAS, emergency action is necessary to allow the Greater Columbus Arts Council to manage and execute the feasibility study in a timely manner; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Development in that it is immediately necessary to enter into a contract with the Greater Columbus Arts Council and to appropriate ...
