To honor and celebrate Ms. Jeannette Corrine Mayo, affectionately known as "Posey," on her 80th birthday.

Body

WHEREAS, Ms. Jeannette Corrine Mayo was the fifth child born to the union of Arthur and Tephy Leek in Bangor, Maine, and shares her April 9, 1928 birthday with her twin sister Jacqueline; and

WHEREAS, in the early 1960s, Ms. Mayo married Mr. Richard Flowers, an Ohio army man stationed in Bangor, and from this union, one daughter, Sheri-Lynn, was born, who later gave birth to Jeannette's only granddaughter, her pride and joy, Bethany Nicole; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Mayo completed her formal training as a nurse surgical technician at White Cross, now known as Riverside Hospital in Columbus, and has since worked in private practice for Dr. Arthur James for many years, as well as at White Cross Hospital, Riverside Hospital and OSU Medical Center, where health issues encouraged her to retire in the mid-80's; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure in health care, Ms. Mayo was always called in for the difficult cases and scrubbed on many eye and heart surgeries and was affectionately given the nickname, Posey, by many doctors and nursing staff and it's a nickname that has stuck with her entire life; and

WHEREAS, her daughter is currently opening a floral and gift shop in her namesake, Posey's; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Mayo became an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church and subsequently Bethany Baptist Church where she remains a member and has been for over 40 years, and through Bethany Baptist Church, Ms. Mayo met Mr. Walter L. Mayo, and later became and remained his blushing bride for nearly 23 years before his passing; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her involvement at Church, Ms. Mayo has taken care of 13 children, who have bestowed upon her her second nickname, Nanny, and currently participates in clay sculpture classes at the Cultural Arts Center where she now boasts a collection of nearly ten sculptures; and
