Explanation

BACKGROUND:
On February 11, 2008 Columbus City Council passed ordinance number 0148-2008 authorizing the Columbus City Treasurer's Office to modify and extend various banking services contracts, among which was a contract for credit card processing services, for the period of February 29, 2008 through February 28, 2009, on behalf of various city divisions. A second contract modification was authorized by Columbus City Council on April 14, 2008 to add $360,000 for the Division of Power and Water (Water). A contract modification is now needed to provide additional funds for the Division of Power and Water (Power) and for the Building Services Division. In addition, as a result of a delay in the conversion (for credit card processing) to Huntington Merchant Services from Fifth Third, the Division of Power and Water (Water) requests a reduction in its provision for credit card processing with the Huntington. This ordinance decreases the contract for credit card processing services. The current contract amount is $697,800. The contract modification will decrease the contract amount to $577,800.

FISCAL IMPACT: Sufficient resources are available for the increase in the contract amounts for the Building Services Division and for the Division of Power and Water (Power).

Emergency action is requested to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the city's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.

Contract Compliance: Huntington Merchant Services, 113328074, expiration 3/7/2009
