Title
To congratulate the Jackson Middle School Student Volunteers for the Transitional Developmentally Handicapped Class, recipient of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, recognizing students who have voluntarily given their time to help others in the community.
Body
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business, labor leaders, and student volunteers who have given outstanding service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award is given to a student or group of students who have voluntarily given their time to help others in the community; and
WHEREAS, one of this year's recipients of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, the Jackson Middle School Student Volunteers for the Transitional Developmentally Handicapped Class, part of the Southwestern City School District, is comprised of Alexandra Epling, Christian Lee, Allison Keller and Arthur Heilman; and
WHEREAS, these exceptional students have given up their valuable study time to assist with the Transitional Developmentally Handicapped Class of eight students with a variety of physical, social, academic, fine motor and speech limitations, by walking laps with the students in the gym, playing games, mentoring, and just being a friend; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2005 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, the Jackson Middle School Student Volunteers for the Transitional Developmentally Handicapped Class, whose voluntarily efforts have made a significant contribution to the Central Ohio community.
