To honor and recognize Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for "A Century of Work, Witness and Worship: A Vision Yet Unfolding!"
 
WHEREAS, On Easter Sunday, April 22, 1907, Thirteen Disciples of Christ founded Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the Jacob Stern Warehouse on Donaldson St. in Columbus, Ohio; and
 
WHEREAS,  In 1925, the church changed its name to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church; and
 
WHEREAS, The church has been located at 428 E. Main Street since 1929, and in 1958, under the leadership of The Reverend Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Sr., the current sanctuary and fellowship center was erected; and
 
WHEREAS, Since 1978, The Reverend Dr. Charles Edward Booth became the spiritual leader of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and for the past twenty-nine years has made his vision a reality with the development of a three-phase Building Program which includes the construction of the Martin Luther-King, Jr. Memorial Chapel, a Day Care facility known as the Hazel Booth Christian Learning Center, and a plan to break ground for a new Family Life Center in 2008; and
 
WHEREAS, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church currently serves hundreds of families in Columbus and is a source of strength and comfort for thousands in our community; and
 
WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 22, 2007, The Reverend Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Jr., Senior Minister of the historic Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. and son of the eighth pastor of Mt. Olivet, will be sharing words of wisdom and encouragement at the 100th Anniversary of church worship; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby proudly honor and recognize Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on this historic occasion in the life of the Church and its worshippers.
