To Celebrate and Recognize the Life of Destiny D. Jackson

WHEREAS, Destiny D. Jackson was born on April 17, 1989, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Lonita (Dolly) Temple-Jackson and Charles Jackson. In 1993, she and her family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she was raised – a place where her joyful spirit and remarkable talents quickly began to shine; and

WHEREAS, a product of Devonshire Elementary School, Monroe Middle School and Centennial High School, Destiny served as captain of the cheerleading team and was inducted into the National Honor Society, excelling both socially and academically; and

WHEREAS, she went on to attend The Ohio State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Film with a minor in Women’s Studies. On campus, she immersed herself in organizations such as the Society of Sisters and the Ohio Union Activities Board, and she was recognized in the 8th edition of Who’s Who in Black Columbus for her academic and community achievements; and

WHEREAS, Destiny was seen as a gentle, caring person whose company was consoling and joyful. She was a good person, remembered by those who knew her for her quiet strength, warmth and sincerity. She was a lighthouse to many, someone who was always willing to lend a sympathetic ear and smile; and

WHEREAS, Destiny left a lasting effect during her lifetime – not with extravagant displays but rather small acts of kindness, affection, and sincere connection. She left behind a legacy of genuineness, kindness, and fortitude. Her commitment to uplift her community and began her career at the Columbus Urban League as program manager. She later moved to New York City to pursue her dreams in the creative arts and took up residence in Brooklyn – a place that fueled her artistic, civic-minded spirit; and

WHEREAS, Destiny was also a gifted Hollywood screenwriter and actress. Her unwavering commitment to mentoring youth, and uplifting her community solidifies her legacy and a pillar of the Columbus ...
