To Celebrate the Asian Community of Central Ohio and Columbus’ Annual Asian Festival

WHEREAS, as of the 2020 Census, the City of Columbus is home to over 50,000 people of Asian descent, the largest population in the State of Ohio, and Central Ohio is home to over 90,000 people of Asian descent, representing dozens of unique cultural identities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus is strengthened by this diversity and the contributions of its many residents of Asian descent; and
WHEREAS, on May 27th and May 28th, 2023, Columbus’ Annual Asian Festival will take place at Franklin Park Conservatory, resuming a cherished tradition that began in 1995 with celebrations of sixteen different Asian ethnic groups through music, arts, food, and other cultural learning activities; and
WHEREAS, as one of Central Ohio’s premier festivals, this event will greatly contribute to the public’s understanding of and appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Asian cultures and is expected to attract over 150,000 attendees; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus is proud to celebrate Asian culture and heritage and encourages all residents to attend the Annual Asian Festival; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council celebrates the Asian community of Central Ohio and Columbus’ Annual Asian Festival, to be held May 27th and 28th at Franklin Park Conservatory.
