To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Mary Yost.

Body

WHEREAS, Mary Yost was an empathetic and compassionate journalist, always dedicated to being a fair and just voice for the residents of Columbus, and

WHEREAS, Mary was a Gahanna native and a graduate of Ohio State University, staying rooted and giving back to Central Ohio and her community throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, Mary’s remarkable contributions to her community led to her induction into the Gahanna Lincoln High School Hall of Fame in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Mary Yost began her career in journalism when she came to the Columbus Dispatch in 1973, spending almost 19 years at the organization, and becoming the first woman to work on The Dispatch’s public affairs team; and

WHEREAS, Mary’s excellent reporting inspired young women throughout the community, and influenced an entire generation of Columbus journalists; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Mary Yost continued her public service career at the Ohio Hospital Association, serving as the Senior Director of Public Affairs, and later becoming the association’s first female vice president; and

WHEREAS, Mary returned to journalism in 2014 when she became the editor of Columbus CEO, before returning to The Dispatch as its opinion-editor in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Mary’s advocacy and passion for cancer research and fundraising demonstrated her unwavering desire to create a better future and uplift others around her; and

WHEREAS, Mary was known as an admired, fair, pragmatic reporter who sought to deliver answers and results for Central Ohio viewers; and

WHEREAS, Mary’s presence and spirit will be missed - she is survived by her husband, TC Brown; her children, Mandy Hickey and Ben Yost; three grandchildren; other loving family; and a tremendous network of journalists, business and healthcare leaders in Columbus and across Ohio; now, therefore
