Explanation
BACKGROUND: This Ordinance will repeal and replace Ordinance Number 3537-2022, which identified an incorrect vendor for support to the East High School Marching Band. Repealing and replacing this ordinance is necessary in order to execute a grant agreement. This ordinance also increases funding for support to the marching band programming.
This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with the East High Band Boosters, a non-profit organization that supports the Columbus East High School Marching Band.
The Columbus East High School Marching Band provides opportunities for students to practice music, build community spirit, and develop dedication to their craft while serving their neighborhood through community events. Marching band engagement can also promote participation in post-secondary educational opportunities.
Columbus City Council’s support of the East High School Marching Band programming will cover travel expenses for college visits for students in the band, further promoting participant in post-secondary educational opportunities. The grant will also cover the costs of instruments to increase band participation by promoting access to musical opportunities.
Emergency action is requested in order to avoid any further delay in college visits for students and in access to musical instruments for students.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are available within the Job Growth subfund.
