Explanation
Background: This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into a contract on behalf of the Transportation Division in the amount of $255,516.83 for the Summit Street Corridor Improvements Project with G & G Cement Contractors, and to pay construction inspection costs up to $55,742.00. This improvement details the construction of curb and sidewalk on Summit Street from Northwood Avenue to Oakland Avenue and from Tompkins Street to Hudson Street and includes curbs, concrete sidewalk, street trees, lighting improvements and other associated work. (See the attached title sheet.) This project is part of the Urban Infrastructure Recovery Fund. The Notice to Proceed is anticipated to be issued on or about March 1, 2004. The project is to be completed by July 1, 2004. This project was advertised on the City of Columbus Formal Bid Listing web page, Dodge Reports, and Builders' Exchange and was let by the Transportation Division. Nine bidders/suppliers were solicited (8 majority, 1 minority) and 6 bids were received (5 majority, 1 minority) and tabulated on October 9, 2003 as follows:
G&G Cement Contractors $255,516.83
Columbus Asphalt Paving $279,928.40
Decker Construction Company $319,788.55
G. Marchi & Son, LLC $327,424.79
McDaniel's Construction Corp. Inc*$341,894.71
Miller Pavement $353,325.35
(*minority)
Evaluation of the quality contractor criteria confirms the low bidder and, therefore, award is to be made to G & G Cement Contractors (Contract compliance number 31-0924129, expiration 12/18/2005), as the lowest, best, most responsive, and most responsible bidder.
Fiscal Impact: Funds are budgeted for the Summit Street Corridor Improvements Project in the Voted 1995, Voted 1999 Streets and Highways Fund.
