This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into a contract in an amount up to $738,725.05 for the Traffic Calming - 2003 project and to pay construction inspection costs up to $94,483.00. This project details the construction of asphalt speed humps and raised intersection tables in accordance with the plans, specifications and estimates for the improvement. The Traffic Calming projects are located on or near Alcott Road, Cherry Creek Parkway, Crawford Drive, Faber Avenue, Gatehouse Lane, Gates Street, Hampton Road, Hiawatha Park Drive, Hilock Road, Ivyhurst Drive, Kilbourne Avenue, Roswell Drive, Ponderosa Drive, Saranac Drive and Springdale Boulevard. This project has a contract duration of 120 days. This project was advertised in The City Bulletin. In addition, bids were solicited from four venders (3 majority, 1 minority) and received from two vendors (2 majority, 0 minority). This project was bid with 5 alternates. Since the sum of the base bid and alternate totals remains within the approved budget for Traffic Calming - 2003, all 5 alternates are being accepted. Bids were opened on June 5, 2003 and were tabulated as follows:

Award is being made to Strawser Paving Company, Inc., cc# 31-4412354 (expires September 30, 2003), as the lowest, best, most responsive and most responsible bidder.
Fiscal Impact: Monies are available and budgeted in the Pedestrian Safety Improvements project within the 1995, 1999 Voted Streets and Highways Fund.
Emergency action is requested for immediate execution of the construction contract so that construction may begin and be completed during the 2003 construction season.
