To Congratulate the Columbus Chapter of Circle-Lets, Incorporated on their 50th Anniversary

 

Body

WHEREAS, on September 18, 1955, in Dallas, Texas, two gregarious women, Vivienne Mays and Dorris Bass, organized Circle-Lets, Inc; and

 

WHEREAS, their mission was to provide a social outlet and a sisterly relationship among women with similar ideas, interests and goals; and

 

WHEREAS, the idea spread nationally, and today they celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Columbus Chapter of Circle-Lets, Incorporated; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1972, Maxine Hamlar, Mildred Chavous, Joan Thornton, and Glenna Watson met to begin the work of starting a Circle-Lets chapter in central Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, with 21 chapters across the United States, Circle-Lets reflects a full spectrum of women whose basic tenet is friendship; and

 

WHEREAS, the legacy of the national and local chapter founders is a bond firm and true to the end, and far, far beyond the horizon; and

 

WHEREAS, These women supported and celebrated each other through the stages of life and established a foundation for future generations; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby congratulate Circle-Lets Columbus on five decades of friendship.
